Glass Ceiling and Company was founded in 2019 by five seniors at Spelman College who wanted to change the job seeking process as it pertains to black women.
The Glass Ceiling Career portal seeks to spread further awareness and educate companies and individuals on the impact of the -isms (racism, sexism, ableism, etc.) while also providing an environment to combat the lack of accessibility, unconscious bias, and lack of transparency when it comes to diversity and inclusion.
The mission of Glass Ceiling Company is to provide a job seeking website that caters to the needs of black women; embodying the mantra of FUBU - For Black Women, By Black Women, but accessible to everyone.
Spelman College, a historically Black college and a global leader in the education of women of African descent, is dedicated to academic excellence in the liberal arts and sciences and the intellectual, creative, ethical, and leadership development of its students. Spelman empowers the whole person to engage the many cultures of the world and inspires a commitment to positive social change.
Through utilizing the lessons learned during their matriculations at Spelman College & their respective experiences within corporate america, the fab 5 created a job portal that catered to their needs as Black Women in the work force.

In 2017, 55.9% of college-educated Black women and men were underemployed in an occupation that did not require a degree, resulting in lower wages and less relief from than their counterparts[1]
In general, a Black woman make 67 cents to a white man’s dollar, meaning Black women are subjected to a gender pay gap and a racial wage gap[2]

Although Black women work more hours than white men and white women, and the hours they have worked have increased by almost 20 percent since 1979, Black women are still paid significantly less than both demographics[2]
